amazonite

This is a perthite, variety of feldspar, so called because discovered in the Amazon, but not near the Amazon River.
It is part of the family of microclines.
The name microcline comes from the Greek “small slope” has been given by Breithaupt in 1830 in reference to its crystallization in the triclinic system.
It was long believed that its color was due to copper but today we know that its color is due to lead. The largest known crystal weighing 700 kg is exposed to the Natural History Museum in Paris.
