It is its discovery near the town of Conseilheira Pena, in Minas Gerais (Brazil) in 1945 by Pough, which gave its name (Brazil is written Brasil in Brazilian).

It is found in Brazil in Minas Gerais (Conselheiro Pena) but also in Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, Espirito Santo, the United States in New Hampshire, Argentina, Namibia (Erongo), in Canada in the Yukon .
